(09-10) 04:00 PDT Washington — U.S. military intelligence has determined that a video released by the Iranian government purporting to show a test of a new submarine missile is bogus, three Pentagon officials confirmed.
The Iranians released the video Aug. 27, one of a series of steps the Tehran government has taken in recent months to display its military potency in the midst of a confrontation with the United States and other Western nations over its nuclear ambitions.
The test apparently was designed to intimidate Iran’s neighbors in the Persian Gulf, including Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, which are U.S. allies and important oil-producing countries, regional experts said. The video showed what appeared to be a successful test of a submarine-fired missile that flies above the water’s surface to attack ships.
But U.S. intelligence officers analyzed the plume of smoke from the missile and determined it matched a video of an earlier Chinese test.
“It’s the identical launch,” a Pentagon official said. “The plume, everything, is the same.”
U.S. officials have been unable to confirm whether any test took place during the Iranian exercise. They say they are certain, however, that the video of the purported test is not of an Iranian sub in the Persian Gulf.
U.S. intelligence agencies have been closely tracking developments in Iran in an attempt to monitor Tehran’s efforts to build up its nuclear capabilities as well as its conventional military capacity. The surveillance efforts are part of what experts see as a strategic contest of increasing complexity, with the two nations working to decipher each other’s motivations and intentions.
The purported missile test, which was announced by Iran’s official news agency a day before the video was released, was made public days before an Aug. 31 deadline set by the United Nations for Iran to halt its uranium enrichment.
The test video was broadcast on Iranian state television and picked up around the world, including by CNN and Fox News.

Sudan man forced to 'marry' goat

A Sudanese man has been forced to take a goat as his "wife", after he was caught having sex with the animal.
The goat's owner, Mr Alifi, said he surprised the man with his goat and took him to a council of elders. They ordered the man, Mr Tombe, to pay a dowry of 15,000 Sudanese dinars ($50) to Mr Alifi. "We have given him the goat, and as far as we know they are still together," Mr Alifi said. Mr Alifi, Hai Malakal in Upper Nile State, told the Juba Post newspaper that he heard a loud noise around midnight on 13 February and immediately rushed outside to find Mr Tombe with his goat.
"When I asked him: 'What are you doing there?', he fell off the back of the goat, so I captured and tied him up". Mr Alifi then called elders to decide how to deal with the case.
"They said I should not take him to the police, but rather let him pay a dowry for my goat because he used it as his wife," Mr Alifi told the newspaper.

National Democratic Assembly chairman, Knesset Member Azmi Bishara, arrived in Damascus on Friday and immediately began making public statements condemning the Israeli occupation of the territories.
Bishara joined his party members, MKs Jamal Zahalka and Wasil Taha, as well as former MKs Muhammad Kanan and Mohammed Miari, who have been in the city since Thursday.
In the course of his meeting with senior members of the ruling Baath party, Bishara warned Syria of the possibility that "Israel launch a preliminary offensive in more than one place, in a bid to overcome the internal crisis in the country and in an attempt to restore its deterrence capability."
During the meeting, Bishara lauded Syria's support for the national rights of the Palestinians and Lebanon, and stressed that the motivation for the "American-Israeli attack" against
Syria lies in Damascus' firm stances. "Syria is the last barrier standing before the strike," MK Bishara said. "The Palestinians living under the occupation have long realized the importance of adhering to the Arab option, in light of the scope of adventurous attempts to hurt their cultural and Arab identity," he added.
In an interview with the Syrian news agency SANA, Bishara expressed support for Syria's position and the struggle it was conducting for "the liberation of its occupied lands." Bishara also stated that Syria had been put "under pressure due to the fact it has stood by the resistance and rejected the American hegemony in the region, because it insisted on freeing the occupied Arab outside the 1967 lines, and because it has stood up for the nations' right o resist the occupation."
During the interview, Bishara declared: "We are Syria's allies and will continue to be in contact with it on the national level, through our well-known views."
MK Zahalka explained that the visit in Damascus "was aimed at expressing solidarity with Syria, as well as discussing the recent developments in the region, particularly following the wild Israeli aggression against Lebanon."

How can Israel allow such treason? I cant believe that Israeli MKs are allowed to go to our enemy and freely give them information and support. Bishara declared: "We are Syria's allies" and expressed solidarity with Syria, but his most damming admission is that he adheres to the arab option of the occupation. Does that mean he wants israel destoyed and taken over by the arabs? MKs Bishara, Jamal Zahalka and Wasil Taha, as well as former MKs Muhammad Kanan and Mohammed Miari should all be kicked out of parliment and booked for treason. Any other country would do this but then again, Olmert is in power here and too weak to act.

NABLUS, West Bank - Masked militants trying to keep students away from school during a politically charged Palestinian teachers' strike on Sunday shot and wounded a 12-year-old boy.
Palestinian teachers began striking Saturday, the start of the school year, to demand full back pay and regular salaries from the Hamas-led government, which has been financially crippled by six months of international sanctions.
Most schools throughout the West Bank remained closed, some by force, as the strike continued. At least three masked militants stood outside a school in the northern West Bank city of Nablus and fired in the air to keep children away, witnesses said.
Stray fire hit a 12-year-old boy, Issam Ghannam, in the abdomen, witnesses said.
He was in stable condition after undergoing surgery, doctors said.
"He has passed the danger zone and is now resting in intensive care," said Dr. Khaled Qadiri, a doctor at Rafidya Hospital in Nablus.
The child's family,
Fatah loyalists, refused to condemn the militants. "There were unknown men with weapons, preventing the students from going to school," said the boy's uncle, Ghannam Ibrahim Ghannam. "They fired, and as an unintentional result of the shooting he was hit."

If they were firing in the air, then how did this boy get hit in the abdomen?? This shows you the mindset of these millitants. Fancy firing at their own children to stop them from going to school, and why isnt the media condemning this?

While there is much to be said for the concept of U.S. assistance to rebuild war-torn Lebanon, U.S. efforts to do so are bumping up against an unpleasant reality: It is extremely difficult to ensure that U.S. and international assistance is not used to strengthen Hezbollah.
President Bush has proposed a $230 million aid package for Lebanon. On Thursday, Randall Tobias, administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development, speaking at a Lebanon donors' conference in Stockholm, outlined a number of specific projects that Washington planned to fund, including bridge reconstruction, school repairs and hiring local workers to fix damaged homes.
Unfortunately, the administration has failed to address the danger that U.S. assistance to Lebanon is likely to be diverted for Hezbollah's benefit. Last month, Mr. Tobias, appearing on Fox News Channel, was grilled by anchor Shepard Smith over reports that Red Cross and other assistance to southern Lebanon goes to Hezbollah. While Mr. Tobias never rebutted the charge, he did say that that AID would work with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to distribute U.S. aid. The problem is that in Hezbollah-dominated regions of the country -- including southern Lebanon, Beirut's southern suburbs and the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon -- it is virtually impossible to find NGOs that are not beholden to Hezbollah.
According to Walid Phares of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, Hezbollah has long controlled money sent to NGOs and Lebanese government agencies, particularly in southern Lebanon. After Syrian troops withdrew from Lebanon last spring, Prime Minister Fuad Siniora had a golden opportunity to assert control over the government's development agency operating in the south. But Mr. Siniora hesitated and cut a deal that enabled Hezbollah to remain in control. Inexplicably, Washington agreed to this arrangement.
Hezbollah, Mr. Phares adds, has also been able to coerce Beirut into exempting many of the Shi'ite group's supporters from paying taxes, and over the past 15 years has succeeded in diverting "millions" of dollars of international assistance to its supporters (a conservative figure). While Hezbollah and its allies benefit from this arrangement, the big losers are Lebanese Christians and Muslims who want to remain independent of the terrorist group.
Groups like UNICEF and Mercy Corps are having trouble trying to help civilians with aiding or going through Hezbollah, according to an Aug. 23 dispatch from southern Lebanon that appeared in the New York Times.
Before any more U.S. aid goes to rebuild Lebanon, Congress and the administration need to agree to conditions that will ensure U.S. assistance to Lebanon does not inadvertently get diverted by Hezbollah.

More proof that Siniora is a traitor to Lebanon and is only there to serve Irans proxy army, Hezbollah. And why after Hezbollah had killed so many Americans, did Washington agree to the arrangement?

Paris: After speaking for over an hour, Moshe wanted to stop the conversation. “Let’s talk slowly. It hurts me,” he sighed. Moshe soon recovered. “It’s okay. You can continue asking, but it brings up harsh memories. I have to organize my thoughts.”
These thoughts have been bouncing around his head for several long weeks now. Raised in Lebanon, he remembers Beirut from its glory days. Even during the terrible times, however, Moshe, a Jew, stubbornly remained in the accursed land.
Fearful for his life, he requested that his real name and several personal details be changed. Moshe is almost seventy years old, and three years ago, he finally left Beirut after spending most of his life as a businessman and well-known figure within the embattled Jewish community.
Familiar with the Lebanese power struggles, Moshe counted all the major players among his friends, or at least his acquaintances, including Jumblatt, the late Hariri, the Shiites, the Christians, and, of course, the Syrians.
Today, from the safety of his new home away from Lebanon, he continues to worry about the handful of Jews still residing in the Lebanese capital. He calls them up to ask about their health and to check that they have sufficient food.
How many Jews are there in Beirut?
“Some say one hundred, but, in actuality, no more than forty Jews remain in Beirut,” he said. “Their average age is eighty.”
Should an attempt be made to evacuate the last Lebanese Jews from Beirut?
“Pay attention well. During my years there, I evacuated one thousand Jews – minus forty. These are the forty that stayed, and these, no one will remove.”
As a child, Moshe moved from Syria to Beirut. His parents were concerned about Damascus’s political instability and preferred to settle in the Lebanese city on the coast. Lebanese Jewry was always one of the smallest Mediterranean communities, but during the 1950’s and ‘60’s, the community, like Beirut itself, experienced a period of serenity.
“It was a very beautiful city. Jews, Druze, Shiites, Sunnis, Christians – everyone lived in peace and was neighborly and friendly. There were very few problems between us. We then had sixteen synagogues in Beirut; they were all full.”
What about the Shiites, who today take the lead when it comes to hating Jews?
“The Shiites? They were the Jews’ friends. There were many Jewish doctors who treated them. I remember Dr. Shames; he was legendary in Lebanon in those years. He only treated Shiites. Most of them were poor, and they couldn’t pay him with money. They would pay him with chickens, eggs, oil, figs, and raisins.”
But when the civil war broke out, the idyll came to an end. Much of the Jewish community left the city, and, according to Moshe, no more than 1,800 Jews remained in Beirut.
“Starting from 1975, the Jews who lived in the Wadi Abu Jamil neighborhood, the Jewish quarter, were actually protected by Yasser Arafat’s Fatah. Then, they would still differentiate between a Jew and an Israeli.”
From bad to worse
Nonetheless, the community continued to shrink. When Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982, Moshe naively believed that peace had finally come.
“Sharon had arrived, and a peace agreement was signed between Israel and Lebanon. I thought that I would live in Nahariya and would work in Lebanon. One can say that my calculation was rather mistaken.”
Instead, matters went from bad to worse for Beiruti Jewry; now they were forced to deal with Hizbullah and the Shiites. Moshe himself was the victim of a kidnapping; he estimates that his abductors were Shiites led by Nabih Beri, head of Amal and today Lebanese Parliament speaker.
“I was at home in Beirut. It was eight in the evening. The doorbell rang. I opened the door, already clad in pajamas. They impersonated Walid Jumblatt’s men. They didn’t even let me change my clothes, and they took me to a refugee camp. They held me there for 48 hours, and I was lucky. Jumblatt personally intervened, and they let me go.”
By that point, no more than one thousand Jews remained in Lebanon. In 1985, prior to the IDF withdrawal to the security zone, only around 700 Jews were left. Moshe decided to stay. He himself endured another three kidnapping attempts; a relative of his was abducted in April 1984, by Hizbullah, and was murdered.
Did the message not get through even then?
“When you live there, you learn how to avoid trouble. There were areas where we couldn’t go, but we managed to stay in places where we felt more or less secure. I had ties to Christian politicians, and that protected us.”
Yet community life was in shambles, and the Jews lived in Beirut as a threatened and persecuted minority.
“Since the end of the seventies, the community has not had a rabbi. In the early eighties, we weren’t even able to gather a minyan (a prayer quorum of ten men) in the synagogue. All our prayer houses were abandoned. Kurds took control of them and later Shiites. We couldn’t openly conduct Jewish life.”
Community members met with Hariri several times, mainly to discuss Lebanese Jewry’s famous Magen Avraham synagogue, built during the 1920’s and a communitywide source of pride.
Arabs rioters had vandalized the unique building in 1982, and the synagogue stood desolate next to the empty Talmud Torah (religious elementary school). Then, after two decades of war, Hariri, a former real estate investor, wanted to rehabilitate the Lebanese capital.
“The Talmud Torah was blocking the view of the sea for some of the structures that Hariri had built,” Moshe recalled. “Over the years, we made every effort to rejuvenate the place, without success.”
In 2002, Hariri made a deal with Beirut’s last Jews. He would grant them 1,500 square meters in an alternate location of their choice, repair the synagogue’s roof, and renovate the facade. In exchange, the Jewish community would agree to destroy the old Talmud Torah building.
However, the Talmud Torah was never rebuilt; the aging community was simply unable to fund the project. While bulldozers destroyed the original structure, which was replaced by a park with a view of the beach, even the synagogue was never restored.
Throughout the interview, I repeatedly asked Moshe why he had insisted on staying in Beirut, but he kept changing the subject. Finally, at the end of our discussion, he deigned to reply.
“Why did I linger? My goal was twofold, or perhaps threefold. I wanted to locate the Jewish bodies that Hizbullah had kidnapped and which we weren’t able to bring to burial. I wanted to protect the people in the community until almost everyone left Lebanon. And there was a personal reason: to prove that I have the right to be in Lebanon. I attempted to maintain the Jewish presence in Lebanon. To prove that if there is hatred against the Jews, it was a result of ignorance.”

ANKARA -- Classic literary characters such as Pinocchio and Tom Sawyer have been converted to Islam as part of a controversial move for the Turkish school curriculum.
The move by Islamic publishing houses to insert references to the Islamic faith throughout literary classics provided to schools throughout Turkey, which is a secular state, has drawn strong opposition from the country's leaders, said Britain's Telegraph newspaper.
Turkey's first Islamic premier, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has demanded that the offending publishers be reprimanded for their decision to insert the religious references, as well as for various slang and insulting terms aimed at the president and the prime minister.
There has been no reported response from the publishers regarding the incident thus far and Huseyin Celik, Turkey's education minister, has sworn to take legal action against any further publications.

Mel Gibson gets blown away outside Moonshadows restaurant in Malibu, and it's coming soon to a theater near you.
TMZ has obtained the opening sequence of the script for the sequel to "The Hebrew Hammer," a 2003 Jewish blaxploitation comedy starring Adam Goldberg. The sequel, called "The Hebrew Hammer 2: Hammer vs. Hitler," depicts a very drunk Mel Gibson spilling out of Moonshadows, two blondes on each arm and a bottle of Irish whiskey in hand. Gibson then obnoxiously berates the valets, leaps into his Lexus and speeds off, screaming obscenities about the Jews. Apprehended by a policeman down the road from Moonshadows, Gibson's anti-Semitic tirade is cut short when the cop -- "The Hebrew Hammer" -- puts a bullet in Gibson's head, spraying a bloody Star of David onto the windshield of his Lexus.
In the new film, written by director John Kesselman, "The Hebrew Hammer" is now married and enjoying the good life in suburbia. But the Hammer is forced to dust off his pimpy, black leather couture to confront a new menace: A time-traveling Hitler, intent on altering key moments in Jewish history -- to the detriment of the Jews
A tug-of-war has erupted over Kesselman's sequel. Insiders tell TMZ the pitch has sparked interest from Hollywood execs, in no small measure because of its hilarious-but-controversial opening scene.
Kesselman, in an interview with TMZ, explained his unorthodox-but-still-Orthodox script this way: "Young Jews love 'The Hebrew Hammer.' I think if Mel wants to truly extend an olive branch to the Jewish Community as a whole, his on-screen death would go a long way in accomplishing that goal."

Siniora: "We will be last to make peace with Israel" By News Agencies

Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora said yesterday that his government refused to have any direct contact with Israel, and that Lebanon would be the last Arab country to ever sign a peace deal with Israel.
"Let it be clear, we are not seeking any agreement until there is just and comprehensive peace based on the Arab initiative," he said.
Siniora was referring to a plan that came out of a 2002 Arab League summit in Beirut.
It calls for Israel to return all territories it conquered in the Six-Day War, the establishment of a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital and a solution to the Palestinian refugee problem - all in exchange for peace and full normalization of Arab relations with Israel.
Israel has long sought a peace deal with Lebanon, but Beirut has hesitated due to Israel's conflicts.

I am sick and tired of this traitor to Lebanon.....Siniora. How can he support Hezbollah, as he has publicly stated in the past, after seeing what destruction, murder and mayhem they have caused to his country and people. The Lebanese people really need to protest against, and oust this bastard. His only interests it seems is in appeasing Hezbollah,Syria and Iran and obviously couldnt give a damn about stability and peace with Israel. For peace sake this S.O.B. has to go!!

"Why did Nasrallah decide to change his unqualified claim of victory into an indirect admission of defeat? Two reasons," Amir Taheri writes in the New York Post.

The first consists of facts on the ground: Hezbollah lost some 500 of its fighters, almost a quarter of its elite fighting force. Their families are now hounding Nasrallah to provide an explanation for "miscalculations" that led to their death ...
The "new Saladin" has also lost most of his medium-range missiles without inflicting any serious damage on Israel. Almost all of Hezbollah's missile launching pads (often placed in mosques, schools and residential buildings) south of the Litani River have been dismantled.
Worse still, the Israelis captured an unknown number of Hezbollah fighters and political officers, including several local leaders in the Bekaa Valley, Khyam and Tyre.

The second reason why Nasrallah has had to backtrack on his victory claims is the failure of his propaganda machine to hoodwink the Lebanese. He is coming under growing criticism from every part of the political spectrum, including the Hezbollah itself.
Last week he hurriedly cancelled a series of victory marches planned for Beirut's Shiite suburbs after leading Shiite figures attacked the move as "unmerited and indecent." Instead, every village and every town is holding typical Shiite mourning ceremonies, known as tarhym (seeking mercy), for the dead.

That certainly sounds like an admission of defeat to me! hahahahahaha!

TEHRAN (Reuters) - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad voiced defiance on Tuesday as a deadline neared for Iran to halt work the West fears is a step toward building nuclear bombs, and challenged President Bush to televised debate.
In a news conference, Ahmadinejad condemned the U.S. and British role in the world since World War Two but made no direct mention of the international nuclear confrontation.
“I suggest holding a live TV debate with Mr. George W. Bush to talk about world affairs and the ways to solve those issues,” he said.

He is currently behind bars in Iraq as he stands trial on charges of genocide.

Speaking at Edinburgh TV Festival, Matt said: “I have it on pretty good information from the Marines on detail in Iraq that they showed him the movie.

Hi Salam and Shalom,This is my first blog so please be patient. I am an Australian infidel residing in the heart of Israel that loves to manipulate pics in photoshop ( Rueters should hire me). Some people say im a nut for leaving Australia to live in israel, and i probally am, but i love this place and have no intentions of leaving.......sorry islamo facists. Anyhow, i hope you enjoy my postings and would love some feedback or suggestions.
